The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry resumes its hearings today, with proceedings continuing to focus on drug seizures and the handling of narcotics in South Africa, alongside expected fresh testimony.
According to Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels, hearings scheduled for 11 to 15 May 2026 will examine evidence linked to drug seizures by law enforcement agencies. The inquiry will also probe allegations of theft, disappearance and mishandling of narcotics in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
A new witness is expected to take the stand during this week’s proceedings, following last week’s evidence, which included in-camera testimony from Witness H on 8 May 2026.
The Commission has been investigating allegations of organised crime activity and possible interference within parts of the criminal justice system, with particular attention on the storage, processing and accountability of confiscated drugs.
This week marks the final set of public hearings before the Commission pauses on 18 May 2026 to prepare its second interim report.
The report is expected to be submitted to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 29 May 2026.
