Two senior police officials accused of offences linked to precious metals have been granted bail after appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today.
Ebrahim Kadwa, who serves as the Head of the Hawks in Gauteng, and Feroz Khan, a senior Crime Intelligence officer within the South African Police Service, were each released on bail of R20,000.
The two face charges of illegal dealing and unlawful possession of precious metals following their arrest over the weekend.
Businessman Tariq Downes also appeared alongside the pair and was granted bail.
The matter drew significant attention in court given the high-ranking positions held by the accused within key law enforcement divisions. The State did not oppose bail, and the court ordered their release under specific conditions.
The case forms part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged unlawful handling and trade of precious metals. Authorities are expected to continue with further investigative work as the matter progresses.
The accused are expected to return to court on 14 July as the investigation continues.
