Flight operations have returned to normal at Cape Town International Airport after an aircraft incident disrupted services on Tuesday afternoon. Airlines are, however, still working to restore their schedules and some passengers may experience delays.

The disruption began when a Kenya Airways flight suffered a tyre failure while landing. The aircraft became disabled on the airport’s primary runway, forcing several arriving flights to divert to alternate airports.

Domestic departures continued during the incident. Some wide-body international flights were delayed while recovery teams worked to clear the runway.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said the runway has since reopened and airport operations have resumed. It warned that some delays may continue as airlines work to recover their schedules.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information before travelling to the airport.

The ACSA mobile app also provides updates on departures, arrivals and any operational changes.

The airport thanked passengers for their patience while teams worked to restore normal services.
