Pitso Mosimane is set to make his return to Bafana Bafana after SAFA’s National Executive Committee approved his appointment.

The decision was taken at an extraordinary NEC meeting at SAFA House on Saturday.

Mosimane is expected to replace Hugo Broos, who left the national team coaching position earlier this week.

SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan confirmed the decision but said the appointment still had to be finalised.

“The NEC has approved the appointment of coach Pitso to Bafana Bafana, but we still need to tie up some loose ends. We will make a formal announcement of the coach next week,” Jordaan said.

Mosimane previously coached Bafana between 2010 and 2012. His return comes after a landmark World Cup campaign for the national team.

Bafana reached the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time. They also ended a 24-year wait to qualify for the tournament.

The team advanced after beating South Korea 1-0 in Monterrey, Mexico, with Thapelo Maseko scoring the winner.

Saturday’s NEC meeting also covered preparations for SAFA’s Elective Congress, scheduled for 12 September.

Nomination files for the positions being contested were handed to the Governance Committee this week.

Attention will now turn to Banyana Banyana, who face Morocco in their WAFCON quarterfinal in Rabat tonight.

The match at the Moulay el Hassan Stadium kicks off at 22h00. Victory would secure Banyana a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Jordaan wished the team well ahead of the crucial clash.

“Tomorrow is Women’s Day; we are also wishing them a day filled with endless success and happiness,” he said.
