The Tiyani Mabunda Foundation and the South African Police Service Tshwane District brought communities together in Soshanguve today.
They hosted the Gauteng Provincial Sports Against Crime Spring Festival at TUT’s Soshanguve Campus.
The initiative brought together sporting teams, law enforcement, youth structures and community organisations as part of efforts to tackle crime and promote safer communities.
The festival uses sport to encourage positive participation and create opportunities for young people to take part in constructive activities.
It forms part of the Tiyani Mabunda Foundation’s youth development work, which focuses on sport, education and community empowerment.

Mabunda, a former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, continues to be involved in youth development following his playing career.
The festival also featured a series of Sports Against Crime fixtures. Teams from law enforcement, youth crime prevention structures and community organisations took part.
The fixtures included Sedibeng West YCPD vs Pretoria Central YCPD, Tshwane YCPD vs TMPD Active, Ekurhuleni YCPD vs Johannesburg YCPD, Crime Prevention Wardens vs TUT FM, SAPS vs SANDF, and Sphathlo Festival vs TMF.

The six fixtures were part of a broader initiative to use sport to bring communities together, promote crime prevention, and encourage safer communities.
