National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams has appeared in court on multiple fraud-related charges and counts of defeating the administration of justice.

The charges stem from alleged incidents in November 2024 and January 2025, during which he is accused of visiting Westville Correctional Centre and interviewing two awaiting trial detainees linked to separate cases, including the Sindiso Magaqa murder investigation. The meetings were reportedly recorded.

Prosecutors allege Adams misrepresented his authority to SAPS, eThekwini Metro Police and correctional services officials. This allegedly created the impression that he was acting on official parliamentary duty, resulting in him being provided with an official escort between King Shaka International Airport and the correctional facility.

It is further alleged that he engaged with inmates without approval from investigating officers, legal representatives, or a formal parliamentary mandate.

He was granted bail of R10 000.

The court postponed the matter to 14 August 2026 for further proceedings.

Strict bail conditions were imposed, including a prohibition on any direct or indirect contact with State or prosecution witnesses. Adams is required to report twice weekly to Mitchells Plain Police Station and remain at his confirmed residential address unless authorised by the investigating officer. Any travel outside the City of Cape Town must be declared and approved in advance, including movements linked to parliamentary duties, which require formal verification.
