Radio veteran DJ Fresh will join Kaya 959 as the host of its weekday breakfast show from 1 July 2026.
Kaya 959 announced the appointment today. The broadcaster, whose real name is Thato Sikwane, will take over the 06:00 to 09:00 slot. He will be joined by his long-time producer and on-air partner, Thato Mataboge.
Kaya 959 said the move forms part of its strategy to strengthen its position in Gauteng’s radio market. The station says the new breakfast show will boost both audience engagement and advertiser reach.
Acting Managing Executive David Tiltmann said DJ Fresh’s arrival is a major milestone for the station.
“DJ Fresh is one of the most influential broadcasters South Africa has ever produced. His ability to connect with audiences is unmatched, and his arrival represents an exciting new chapter for Kaya 959,” he said.
Tiltmann said the station is focused on strong talent and quality programming. He added that the show will be entertaining, culturally relevant and engaging.
DJ Fresh said returning to breakfast radio is meaningful because it allows presenters to become part of listeners’ daily routines.
“Kaya 959 has built something unique – a powerful brand, a loyal audience and a strong connection with Gauteng,” he said.
He added that he and Mataboge are excited to join the station team and build a show filled with energy, conversation and entertainment.
DJ Fresh also described the move as a reunion. He said it brings him back on air with broadcaster Mpho Maboi for the first time in 20 years.
He has worked in radio for more than three decades. His career includes YFM, 5FM and Metro FM.
Kaya 959 said the new breakfast show will feature music, discussion, humour and lifestyle content aimed at Gauteng listeners.
