The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has appointed former editor and media personality Sifiso Mahlangu as its new national spokesperson following the resignation of Nhlamulo Ndhlela from both the party position and Parliament.
The appointment was confirmed after a meeting of the party’s National Officials held on Monday, with the leadership describing the change as part of adjustments to the organisation’s communications structure.
Mahlangu takes over the role with immediate effect. In announcing the appointment, the party said his background in journalism and media would strengthen its public communication efforts at a critical stage of the organisation’s growth.
The MK Party said Mahlangu brings extensive media experience and technical expertise to the position, adding that his understanding of communication and public engagement would benefit the party going forward.
Before entering politics, Mahlangu built a career in journalism and broadcasting, making his appointment one of the party’s most notable media-related leadership changes since its formation.
Outgoing spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela also stepped down as a Member of Parliament with immediate effect. While the party did not elaborate on the reasons behind his departure, it acknowledged the role he played in shaping the MK Party’s public image during its rise on the national political stage.
Ndhlela had been one of the organisation’s most recognisable figures and regularly addressed the media on behalf of the party during election campaigning and internal political developments.
The party thanked him for his contribution, particularly in establishing its communications and media presence during a period of rapid political growth.
The MK Party further called on members, supporters, and the media to support Mahlangu in his new role as the organisation continues with internal restructuring and organisational changes.
The leadership reshuffle comes as the party intensifies preparations for future political campaigns and broader organisational expansion following its strong performance in the 2024 general elections.
