The South African Football Association (SAFA) has rejected reports that Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has already been handed a one-year contract extension.

The association said no decision has yet been made on the future of the senior national team’s coaching position.

Broos remains under contract with SAFA until the end of July 2026 under his current agreement.

SAFA said its governance processes involving the Bafana Bafana technical team are still underway. No contract has been approved or issued by the National Executive Committee.

The association raised concern over reports claiming Broos had already secured a new deal. It said some of the reports relied on unnamed sources.

According to SAFA, the claims have created unnecessary speculation, misled the football public and undermined the association’s decision-making processes.

SAFA also appealed to media organisations to seek comment before publishing claims relating to its affairs. It said doing so would help verify the facts and prevent inaccurate reports from being published.

The association said it will announce any decision on the Bafana Bafana coaching position once its internal processes have been finalised and the relevant structures have reached a decision.

SAFA also encouraged supporters and stakeholders to rely on its official communication channels for updates on national team matters.
