The Presidency has acknowledged the ruling of the Constitutional Court in the matter brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters challenging Parliament’s handling of Section 89 proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

In a statement released today, the Presidency said Ramaphosa respects the judgment and reaffirms his commitment to the Constitution, the independence of the judiciary, and the rule of law.

The case stemmed from the EFF’s legal challenge to parliamentary processes relating to allegations against the President and the handling of the Section 89 independent panel report.

The Presidency said Ramaphosa has consistently cooperated with all processes and enquiries related to the matter, adding that he has provided “full assistance” throughout the various proceedings.

“It is the President’s position that no person is above the law, and that any allegations must be subjected to due process without fear, favour or prejudice,” the statement read.

The Presidency also called on South Africans to respect the Constitutional Court’s ruling and uphold confidence in judicial institutions.

Ramaphosa’s remarks come amid heightened political attention on Parliament’s handling of Section 89 procedures, which govern the process for considering serious allegations of misconduct against a sitting president.

The Presidency said it would continue to respect all constitutional processes and remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions.
