Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, along with 15 co-accused, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on corruption charges linked to an alleged R228 million tender, with the matter postponed to 26 June 2026.

The case relates to the alleged irregular awarding of a Medicare 24 contract linked to Matlala. Masemola also faces charges under the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

The court heard the state is still completing investigations and finalising disclosure of the case docket to the defence.

Further information obtained during consultations with Matlala has prompted additional investigative work and potential amendments to the charge sheet following Masemola’s inclusion.

Prosecutors are expected to hand over the full docket by the next court date.

Matlala has been allowed to remain at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility during ongoing consultations.

Masemola told reporters outside court he was unclear on certain aspects of the matter and declined to comment further.
