Zandile Dabula has resigned as president of Operation Dudula and from her membership in the movement.

Addressing the media today, Dabula said the decision followed a period of reflection on the organisation’s future direction, her role within it, and its broader responsibility to supporters since its formation.

Dabula added that her personal vision no longer aligns with the movement’s current direction, suggesting possible internal differences.

Dabula, who has been a prominent voice calling for undocumented foreign nationals to return to their countries of origin, said stepping down was emotionally difficult.

Dabula said leaving the organisation “feels like a part of me has been lost.”

Dabula said, “Stepping down does not mean I am abandoning the struggle. I am not backing down and I am not retreating from issues I raised some years ago. I will continue raising such issues and push for action.”

Dabula further indicated that there had been internal discussions within leadership regarding the future of the movement.

This included concerns that the transition of Operation Dudula into a political party may have occurred earlier than appropriate.

Dabula said this formed part of the broader reflection that informed the decision to step aside.

Dabula added that it was in the best interest of both herself and the organisation for her to step down at this stage.

Despite the resignation, Dabula said support for the principles and concerns underpinning Operation Dudula would continue. These include immigration, community safety, accountability, economic inclusion, and the dignity of South Africans.
