Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye appeared at the Germiston Magistrates’ Court today, where his warrant of arrest was struck off the court roll.
It was issued after Maarohanye missed his previous court appearance on 24 August. His legal team told the court he had been unable to attend because of ill health.
His firearm-related case has been postponed, and he remains out on R5,000 bail.
The 45-year-old faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to make another person believe it was a firearm.
The case relates to an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale in June. Maarohanye allegedly accused the driver of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend after dropping her off at his home.
It is further alleged that Maarohanye removed the driver from his vehicle and fired a shot in his direction.
The NPA has said a pellet gun was seized from Maarohanye’s residence during the investigation and that the State is ready to proceed with the case.
Maarohanye has denied the allegations and previously described the case as fabricated.
The matter will return to court on 17 September.
