Prominent Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his three co-accused will spend the weekend behind bars after their bail application was postponed in the Kwaggafontein Magistrates’ Court.

The group appeared in court on Friday in connection with charges of extortion and money laundering. Bail proceedings began, but the matter was not finalised and has now been postponed to Monday for continuation.

A fourth accused joined the matter after handing himself over to the police earlier on Friday.

The State alleges the accused were involved in an extortion scheme in which a businessman was allegedly forced to make payments over an extended period. Prosecutors also claim the case involves financial transactions linked to the alleged proceeds of crime.

The defence is expected to continue with its bail application when the matter returns to court.
