Brown Mogotsi was first thrust into the spotlight on 3 November 2025, when he was allegedly the target of an assassination attempt in Vosloorus, Extension 25.
At the time, it was claimed that unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle. Mogotsi said he managed to escape the incident unharmed, and the shooting initially sparked concern in the local community.
The case has now taken a dramatic turn.
Police have since arrested Mogotsi in connection with the same incident, amid allegations that the attack may have been staged.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said a multidisciplinary team executed a J50 warrant of arrest in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, leading to a suspect being taken into custody for defeating the ends of justice.
Mathe said preliminary investigations suggest the attempted assassination may have been orchestrated.
She added that the firearm allegedly used in the incident has been linked to other serious and violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder.
Mathe said the suspect will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday
